Healthful eating does not mean you eat healthy only at breakfast, dinner and lunch. It’s not the case if your only mealtime is during meals.
But, the majority of people prefer to have some snacks throughout the day. Foods can help us concentrate mentally and give us energy for the meal that’s coming up.
It’s essential to be careful when it comes to choosing your snacks. Even though you may be eating the most delicious lunches at work, if your snack on junk food between meals, it won’t make a difference.
Foods that are laden with junk like candy bars, soda and potato chips will not help power you through the afternoon and a consistent intake of junk food items can cause harm to your body over the long run by boosting the risk of developing diseases.
One way to ensure you’re eating the most nutritious snacks is to plan your meals ahead according to dietitian Beth Czerwony, RD. It is best to not make a decision when hungry in front of the fridge or vending machine at 3 p.m.
These five tips will make you a better snack savant:
1. Plan your snacks for the workweek and prepare them at home on Sunday night
Your snacks can be stored in small bags or containers to make it easy to grab a snack when you leave the meeting.
Czerwony suggests making up small containers of watermelon that are juicy or other fruit. Schweizer Zwischenverpflegung can also cut celery into sticks that you can munch on at your desk. The point is to plan healthy and plan ahead.
“It is much easier when you feel overworked or stressed, and you are overscheduled,” she says.
2. Consider adding a bit of protein to help keep you full
A handful of nuts that are heart-healthy can be paired with the fruit, or a tablespoon peanut butter to go along with celery.
3. Enjoy fruits with their skin on
Avoid peeling your fruit. The skins of apples, plums or peaches add fiber , which will allow you to feel fuller for longer periods of time. Whole fruits are tasty and easy to store at work or eaten without plates or other utensils while on the go. Wash your fruits at home before bringing them to work.
4. Pack snacks that won’t spoil quickly
You could also think about the high-fiber health bars or a couple of cups of healthy dry cereal. Czerwony recommends keeping a prepared pack of tuna at your desk that you can easily open and consume with a fork.
Czerwony says, “Right there you can enjoy lunch even when your desk is not occupied for the entire day.” “You shouldn’t skip eating. This is another thing that you should avoid in order to shed weight.
5. Have a glass water or decaffeinated tee with your snack
Liquids can help you to feel full and are good for your health too. Studies suggest that proper fluid intake increases the metabolism of cells, helps muscles perform better by supplying oxygen and promotes the body’s removal of waste.
